From Aural Innovations May 2009 update
This is the band's 2nd release in 2008. Soon after this the band released a split 7' on a Japanese
label with Angel of Damnation but I have not been able to find where outside Japan to get it so, I
can't review that track (and it is not at myspace). Anyway, the band has now expanded into a five
piece and while the other CD was mostly instrumental, this one is mostly vocal. There are 9 tracks
in 31 minutes. The CD is a mixture of short acoustic tracks (Foresta Esmeralda), garage rockers like
Cancion para Nuada, and Desierto Roja, which reminds me of Abramis Brama. Sol Poniente is a longer
track and more spacey psychedelic rock before the ending track, Adios Afallenau, is a short
instrumental blues number. Cool stuff.

'The band's more aligned with classic rock this time around, although there are moments of folksy
inspiration amidst the swirling retro pyschedelia and thick riffs. For a band that delved so deeply
into doom on their debut, they certainly know how to get asses shaking. Don Juan Matus' Visiones
Paganas is a must-have for fans of classic rock and doom.'

'Leaning on the rock side of the 'doom rock' equation gives Don Juan Matus a bigger feeling of
cohesion, which breeds a more defined sense of purpose. On this second album, rocking numbers get
stompier and acoustic ones are creepier, leading everything to that great place called Coherence,
without losing grit and density. It figures; after all, the stronger the focus, the sharper the

On the second release by Don Juan Matus you get thrown straight into the medieval ages in 'Foresta
Esmeralda', among knights and lovely ladies, only to be swiftly hurled into the late sixties, among
acid-hungry and peace lovin' hippies in 'Cancion Para Nuada' The latter is an orgy of heavy fuzz
laden guitars, hammond organ and crazy vocals that easily makes me wanna roll down the stairs in
madness.
