Nach 40 (!) Jahren liegt nun endlich das Debütalbum des englischen Saxophonisten Clive Stevens auf CD vor. Aufgenommen 1972 und veröffentlicht 1974 zählt „Atmospheres featuring Clive Stevens & Friends“ zu den frühen Werken des amerikanischen Jazzrock.
Entstanden in New York, dokumentieren die 6 Stücke den damaligen Zeitgeist und die Aufbruchsstimmung der frühen Siebziger Jahre. Mit so prominenten Musikern wie den beiden Gitarristen John Abercrombie und Steve Khan, Ralph Towner am Elektro Piano (!), sowie der Rhythmusgruppe des Mahavishnu Orchestras, Rick Laird und Billy Cobham gelang Stevens ein kleines Meisterwerk, das stilistisch deutliche Bezüge an den Miles Davis der „Bitches Brew“ Ära, wie auch dem Mahavishnu Orchestra aufweist. |
