In mid-1972 Peter Hensel, Claus D. Kniemeyer, Dieter-Paul Becke and Jennifer Hensel founded the band Octopus. At this time, all members are studying or living in student residences at the University of Frankfurt am Main. Werner Littau responded to an advertisement on the bulletin board at the University of Frankfurt in autumn 1972 and became Octopus` keyboardist. The band composes and creates a program of 90 minutes. Inspired by bands like Beggar`s Opera, Camel, Yes and other prog rock bands, they try to develop their own independence right from the start. The first performance takes place in Ranstadt near Frankfurt on November 20th, 1973. In the spring of 1974, Hans-Paul Sattler joined the band with his Mellotron and Fender Rhodes. In the following months in 1974 the band plays 25 gigs all over Germany. E
