Als eines der frühesten Beispiele für progressiven Rock ist The Book of Taliesyn ein wichtiges Werk. Es ist kein Meisterwerk, aber wie beim zweiten Album von Curved Air scheinen die Anforderungen, schnell mehr Material zu schreiben, sie zu höheren Höhen angespornt zu haben.
Die Mischung aus psychedelischem, bluesigem Rock, gemischt mit Ausflügen in klassische Keyboard-Segmente, zeigt, dass in der Mitte des Albums wirklich aufregende Ideen schlummern und es gibt sogar Momente, in denen die treibende Gitarre und die Riffs so klingen, als ob sie dabei wären, in Klassiker wie 'Highway Star' einzusteigen.
